Boat trip to Vrångö

Last weekend offered warm and glorious sunny weather, which gave us the chance to go on a boat trip with our friend Sture and his boat to the archipelago outside Gothenburg. The course was set for the small island Vrångö (Wrong Island as Erik likes to call it :-)) and another friend, Linda joined us. So did our two dogs, who for the occasion were wearing their new life vests. Somewhat to our surprise, our Dutch dog Jörfi really loved the boat trip and being close to water whereas the older Deli was more stressed. Nevertheless, we had a wonderful day and stay on Vrångö where we walked in between the picturesque houses, had coffee & ice cream near the port for the ferries, and lunch in the old harbour, where we had tied up the boat. Lots of people came with their boats or with the ferries to enjoy these perhaps last days of summer in the archipelago. I’m completely sold on the sea, sailing, boats, and the Swedish archipelago! We are so thankful for Sture for taking us there – it was a fantastic day in excellent company!

Photo: Linda Gao. I have loved sailing ever since I was a small child and joined my grandfather ‘Opa’ on his sailing boat in Holland.
Photo: Erik Sturkell. Sture, our captain, who took us on a tour in his luxury motor boat. Of course went much faster than the sailing boats I’m used to.

Photo: Erik Sturkell. I gave them treats for most of the duration on the way out to keep their minds busy with something else than getting stressed over the boat trip.

Photo: Erik Sturkell. Each ferry broad loads of new people to the island. Very popular to visit on this sunny day.
Photo: Erik Sturkell. Vrångö is interesting from a geological point of view, too. Sture had identified an area close to the beach, where there was intruding rock and migmatization. Jörfi surprised us all by suddenly jumping in to the sea, but she was fine, and came happy and wet onshore again :-).
Photo: Sture Berntsson. The complicated geology of mafic rocks intruded by granite – or vice versa.
Photo: Linda Gao. Besides being a spectacular rock to behold there are interesting striations left by the ice cover from the last ice age.
Photo: Gabrielle. Busy time at Vrångö. A lot of visiting boats trying to find a place to tie up there boat.
Photo: Gabrielle. And with a real sense of summer with lots people jumping to the sea for a refreshing swim in 29 C air temperature.
Photo: Gabrielle. You had there impression that everyone with a boat was out on this day.
