Guido Stockmann and Ricardo Regazzoni
This is a double obituary for my uncle Guido Stockmann and his life-long partner Ricardo Regazzoni, who sadly both passed away this year. Ricardo in end May, and Guido on the 23rd of October in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Both had deteriorating health but Ricardo’s death came very suddenly and unexpectedly, nevertheless. Where we several times thought that the end had come for Guido, he managed to hang on to life a little longer. But with the sudden passing of Ricardo, his partner through decades, his life-thread became very thin. Very understandable! Luckily, my mother and I had planned a visit to the Netherlands earlier in October and managed to visit Guido twice while we were there. The first visit was really heartbreaking because Guido seemed so sad. As he was unable to speak these last couple of years, you could only interpret his expressions and the sounds he could make. We decided to make a second visit the day before we left, and thank god for that! My mother showed Guido photos from their family and childhood in Holland and from her home in Denmark, and told him about the memories she had based on the photos she showed him. At some point, Guido suddenly looked up and looked at me sitting on the couch nearby and he gave me the most radiating smile, all the way to his eyes. It completely melted my hearth and I thought this is how I will remember my uncle, who used to have easy access to smiles and entertaining stories, showed a lot of interest in my life, and gave me his wonderful piano. Some practical information: The memorial ceremony for Guido will take place on Friday, 31st of October at 14.30 in the small aula in De Nieuwe Ooster, Kruislaan 126 in Amsterdam, NL. NB!
