Lödöse Museum

Erik, I and the dogs went to the old town of Lödöse to inspect the sites where some of Erik’s students have performed geophysical studies of the monastery hill and below the castle hill. They did this work for their Masters’ studies at the University of Gothenburg and used ground penetrating radar and resistivity measurements to map out the old ground walls and foundations of the monastery and castle from the 11th and 12th century. With success as far I understand it. Following this walk around the town, we went to visit the Lödöse Museum. Not a big museum but very well organised and informative. On the first Sunday of each month, there is free entry to the museum, which happened to be on the day we where there. This town is old, more than 1000 years, which place its establishment back in the Viking Age with a good location at Göta Elv (Göta river). However, with time the Norwegians became more aggressive neighbours across the river and that led to the Lödöse inhabitants being moved to a new and safer town, Nya Lödöse. Quite a fascinating story and a museum worth visiting: https://www.lodosemuseum.se
