Meteorite fieldwork in Jämtland
One week was spent in Jämtland, Northern Sweden in end of September in search of further evidence of a third meteorite crater in the Lockne – Tandsbyn area. This is a continuation of the field campaign that Erik and I started last autumn, and where we identified a nice gravitational anomaly that fitted the presence of a smaller meteorite crater. Erik’s old-time colleague, Jens Ormö from Spain came to our aid and helped in making additional levelling and gravity measurements. With the new results at hand, everything still points towards a third meteorite crater being present, but drilling is needed to verify the geophysical results if we want to be absolutely sure. The two dogs, Deli and Jörfi, almost 12 and 2.5 years old, respectively, enjoyed being with us in the forest. However, minus degrees were already on us on some of the early mornings, which was a bit tough for the older dog Deli and her arthritis. Hence, my friend Nina Plesner (who lives in Jämtland) sponsored us with nice jackets from her sled dogs, which helped in keeping our less furry-coated smooth collies warm. Looks good on them, especially Jörfi :-).
