Oceanography in Ikka Fjord

First leg of our fieldwork in Ikka Fjord, SW Greenland this summer was carried out by oceanographer Jesper Sano Højdal from HydroCharting ApS and Kunuk Albrechtsen from Arsuk. Despite bad weather, they were able to make 78 temperature-salinity profiles from inner Ikka Fjord all the way to outer Arsuk Fjord. Really impressive work and data they have acquired! In addition, 10 temperature dataloggers were deployed in Ikka Fjord, which we will re-collect in August. The background for this work is the ikaite column garden found in inner Ikka Fjord. The mineral ikaite in these columns is only stable up to 6 degrees. Thus, all seawater temperatures above 6 degrees could be damaging to the column stability. We sincerely thank Aage V. Jensens Fonde in Denmark for funding this important work!
