For some reason, the message hadn’t come across to us that Aage V. Jensens Fond in Denmark (https://www.avjf.dk/avjnf/) had granted us funding to invest in data loggers for measuring temperature and salinity among the ikaite columns in Ikka Fjord, SW Greenland. I can’t describe how happy and relieved I was to read this message today, because I was in the middle of re-calculating how many or rather few data loggers we could buy with our current budget. Thus, once again thank you to Aage V. Jensen’s Fond for investing in our Ikka project! We are extremely grateful for this opportunity to add new data and understanding of the fluctuations in temperature and salinity of the seawater of Ikka Fjord. The plan is to have continuous data collection for a year or longer and retrieve data once per year and use it for hydrographical modelling. With this data and modelling, we get a better picture of what conditions the ikaite columns and the marine life are exposed to over a whole year. Both too high temperatures and too low salinity will cause stress to the columns and marine organisms.
