Fire of Love – movie time for schools
Since 1995, school kids in Gothenburg have been offered a chance to watch movies as part of their teaching curriculum. Different movies offer different topics to discuss in plenum and with an expert / scientist present to answer questions. Erik had the immense pleasure yesterday of taking part in such a show case for the new movie ‘Fire of Love’. This movie features the couple, Katia and Maurice Krafft, a legendary couple within volcanology! Over decades, they travelled around the world to wherever there was a volcanic eruption to study and to photograph. In the end, a pyroclastic flow of the Japanese volcano Unzen craved their lives. This is shown in the movie’s last scene (never underestimate the danger of volcanoes). Krafft’s passion for volcanoes and their stunning film footage is most likely known by every natural scientist, but maybe a new generation of young people can be inspired by a movie like ‘Fire of Love’. Erik attended the movie session as an expert in volcanology. The movie theatre ‘Hagabion‘ was fully booked, and the pupils had several questions to Erik, e.g., how to predict volcanic eruptions and the effects of volcanoes.
