GeoEarth 2026 in Paris

On the 9th and 10th of September I attended the 7th edition of the World Congress on Geology & Earth Science in Paris. I left Copenhagen Airport on the evening of the 8th to arrive at the Charles de Gaulle airport (Fig. 1). The meeting took place at the Radisson Blu hotel at the airport (Fig. 2), so sadly no visit to the capital of France. I was invited to give a lecture on “Geologists on the Silver Screen”. This was a response to all the attention our article in Geology Today got in recent months, particularly the feature article by the editors of Science. This was perhaps the last presentation on the topic of geologists in movies as we feel the project is now concluded.
The meeting was small with only 31 invited talks and a few posters. The mix of topics spanned the whole geoscience register, which meant I learned a lot of new things. However, the meeting organiser Robert Martin was not to be found, which was sad as it would have been interesting talking to him.
The meeting ended at 4 PM on the 10th and my flight departed at 9:45 PM so there was too little time to get into Paris and back. Unfortunately, the lounge I have access to is in the 2C terminal and my flight departed from the 2D terminal, so it was a long evening to spend at the French airport!
